The Stewardship Initiative
A group of professionals, landowners, builders and social impact developers have come together to advocate the Stewardship development model to address the housing crisis; to respond to climate change and the need to secure more resilient, economically vibrant, healthy and liveable environments, and to assist housing delivery.
‘Asks’ to mainstream Stewardship approach:
The removal of tax barriers for land providers wishing to adopt a patient capital position equalising through vesting land as equity, also inhibiting land assembly and pooling potentially through the creation of a Stewardship ‘wrapper’.
Access to patient capital to match the commitment of land as equity targetted to support high quality project impacts.
Planning streamlining for genuine stewardship projects demonstrating a clear alignment of interest with local communities and the Local Planning Authority, with demonstrated capacity to undertake internal design quality management. Local Development Orders for compliant schemes.
Enhanced mechanisms for public / private partnerships to enable ‘doing more with less’ and to lend certainty to encourage the commitment of investment.
The Stewardship Kitemark
The Stewardship Kitemark is proposed to test the robustness of schemes in meeting stewardship performance against measurable set of standards. This will help to guide high quality placemaking and translate ESG principles into practice to deliver high quality, beautiful, mixed use places.
